The following review written by one of the Software Informer contributors applies to version 4.2

Nowadays, spyware, trackware, adware and other malicious software has become a major concern for all the people who uses the Internet. For that reason, it is mandatory to have a program for detecting and eliminating all this damaging software from our computers. SuperAntispyware is such a program. It has a powerful engine that allows you to choose the type of scan you want to perform. You can ask the program to make a quick scan of the programs currently running and the most common places where spyware uses to hide, or to perform a complete scanning of all your programs, files and registry entries. Also, you can customize the type of scanning. If the program detects any malware in your system, it quarantines it automatically. Then, you can choose to delete all quarantined files, or restore them if they are false positives. The program can be updated automatically by clicking on the corresponding button of the main menu. There is also a Professional version, which allows you to block potential threats in real time, and program scannings at your convenience. You can purchase it at the developer's site.

SuperAntiSpy caught a number of bad things that were not caught by Adaware, Malwarebytes, or my paid version of Norton. Hands down! Once I figured it out, it's probably the easiest of the free AVs, with the fastest response (necessary on my crummy, old, 256 Ram computer).
I might get the paid SAS version when the Norton subscription runs out. I've had to uninstall and reinstall SAS a couple times, but that's because my computer is old (2004, XP SP3), not due to SAS probs. I could see a comic book hero called Super Anti Spyware!
I liked AVG, but it caught only cookies (now my cookies disappear when I close my Mozilla Firefox browser--see Options. My Google Chrome cookies get caught by CCleaner, which is fast and easy.) AVG slowed down my system WAY too much. MalwareAntiBytes and Adaware have also caught things Norton didn't catch.
Spybot was just weird; I never could figure it out, it barked constantly at me for trying to change the length of time before my screensaver started. I mean literally barked. After a week, every time I tried to scan my system, Spybot instead took me to a sort of Minesweeper solitaire game with roars and howls from Windows 98 Jungle Sounds.
The first day I had it, it did indeed help find a lot of unnecessary, hidden files that were cluttering up my drive. The Spybot software itself was cluttered and confusing though, even to a Linux-using dinosaur from the BASIC and FORTRAN days.
I do like things about the Norton, but they might be equaled by a combination of the free software out there. I am still looking for a backup utility and firewall that might equal Norton. Zone Alarm was good, but I could do nothing but check on it every time I changed websites, even. Quite time-consuming.
I also like Glary Utilities, HLP Free PC Cleaner, and especially CCleaner and the other stuff from Piriform, (all free, some with paid versions which get you more convenience in scheduling, and sometimes other goodies).
It's too bad that to keep my system clean and tidy, as well as virus-,worm-, and spyware-free, I need so many utilities. Even paid Norton doesn't catch all my obsolete, bulky Thumbs databases, for instance, that HLP Free Cleaner gets; and Norton misses a lot of the broken, obsolete Registry items found by CCleaner. I need them all.
I had IObits from China, but I read somewhere that it was actually putting spyware ONTO people's computers. It did an adequate job of cleaning, but HLP and Glary are just as good. Iobits did give me an easy-to-locate-and-use backup of all the drivers on my system.
Since I'm extremely nearsighted, and on SSI Disability due to cancer, I'm looking for a really good, free magnifier, but it looks like I might have to pay for Zoomtext.
